In 2020, Belgais highlights Franz Schubert with a series of four concerts that will reinvent the spirit of the famous «Schubertiades". With great works of chamber music, pieces for piano and «Lieder» that dialogue with literary texts, these concerts recreate the moments of sharing, conviviality, poetic and spiritual intensity that were the Schubertiades. Because, behind the familiar figure of Schubert, there hides a composer with tenderness and humanistic depth, who takes us, sometimes painfully, on a journey to the end of the sensibilities and mysteries of the universe. The magnetism of Schubert's art, adored by all musicians, gives his work a timeless value, understood by all cultures. That is why these four concerts, with which Maria João Pires in collaboration with exceptional musicians, in tune with an artistic and sonorous universe will come into contact with Schubert's art. It is the fraternal "answer" of jazz, popular music and contemporary creation that we will hear in all its diversity and richness. In fact, composers from Japan, Brazil and Africa wrote pieces for this project, in which the Schubert themes intertwine with their own language: a way to honor a man that his friends dubbed "Schwammerl", "the little mushroom", but he became, thanks to his humanity and his genius, a universal figure.
